Quest for
Authenticity As far back as the 1700s, some of the
nicest American homes were topped with metal roofs. Architects say the
recent resurgence stems from high-end clients' desire for materials that
are somehow more historically authentic than asphalt, yet are less apt
to induce sticker shock than slate, tile or wood shakes.

The
Roofing Report So what do you know about re-roofing your
home? Unless you’re a roofer, builder or architect you probably don’t
know too much. Before we go too far, here’s an interesting tidbit that
you need to know right up front: Of all of the complaints filed with the
BBB and other reporting agencies for home improvement remodeling trades,
one of the highest (if not THE highest) number of complaints are lodged
against roofing contractors.

Homeowners on a Hot Metal Roof
More home builders and renovators are
saying no to asphalt-shingle roofs, heralding a revival of interest in
slate, clay tile, wood shake and other historically popular materials
that we considered both aesthetically pleasing and less harmful to the
environment. But most of these options are impractical. Slate and clay
tile are heavy and may require structural reinforcement. Wood isn’t
durable and offers limited fire resistance.

Why Metal
Roofing?
The short answer is, "Because they’re the best
roofs you can buy," but it only takes a little investigation
to understand why this is true.
Metal roofs by KBS Metal
Roofing are BEAUTIFUL:
First, and most surprising to many outside of the roof
products industry, is that there are more styles, shapes
(also called “profiles”), colors and patterns with metal
roofs than ANY other type of material. No matter what
architectural style you’re trying to capture, there’s a
metal roof that is up to the challenge. From elegant and
distinctive copper and zinc to formed tiles and shingles of
steel or aluminum, building owners simply have more choices
and more options in metal.
It’s very common for people investigating their roofing
options to believe that metal roofs only come in long,
vertical panels. Of course they do, but if you spend just a
few minutes looking at the photos on our website, you’ll see
that’s just the start. To this day, it's not uncommon for
people to see pictures of some of the tile, shingle and
shake profiles you’ll see on this website and not believe
they're looking at a metal roof product! I assure you, every
photo on this website that says metal, IS metal. Look again
and see if you don’t agree that metal roofs can be truly
beautiful.
Metal roofs by KBS Metal Roofing last the LONGEST:
While nothing lasts forever, the right choice of metal
roofing can last many lifetimes. I would never claim that
any metal roof will last 100 or more years in every
application, but if long service life and low maintenance
are priorities, then metal has to be one of your first
choices.
Metal roofs by KBS Metal Roofing are the MOST VERSATILE:
Because of the wide variety of shapes and styles, and
because metal roofs are the lightest roof choice, building
owners simply have more choices when considering metal –
especially if they are re-roofing. Few roof material choices
allow you to go over your existing roof as successfully as
metal. In fact, metal is one of the few materials that can
go over just about ANY existing roof assembly. Combine this
technical benefit with the many beautiful options, and you
have the perfect material choice for not only replacing an
old or failing roof, but upgrading the entire building at
the same time.
Metal roofs by KBS Metal Roofing are SAFE:
Metal roofs are incombustible – they will not burn. While
no roof covering can guarantee that your house will not
catch fire, you can at least eliminate the roof as a fire
risk. Metal roofs are also good choices in earthquake-prone
areas because of their light weight and rigidity. If you
live in an area likely to feel the occasional movement of
the earth, ask yourself if you'd feel more comfortable
sleeping under 1½ tons of roof covering (a typical metal
roof) or 15 tons (a standard weight concrete roof). Even the
lightest of the asphalt shingles is nearly double the weight
of an average metal roof!
One of the other big advantages of a properly configured
metal roof is tremendous resistance to high winds. In fact,
there are no better materials available for resisting the
damage of extreme weather. Because metal roofs are
mechanically fastened and don’t rely on a rapidly aging
adhesive like an asphalt roof (ever wonder why wind
warranties on asphalt roofs ALL expire after only five years
or so? Now you know!), they are the most capable material
for staying put in all weather conditions for generations to
come.
Metal roofs by KBS Metal Roofing are EARTH FRIENDLY:
All of the metal roofs we sell are comprised of a
significant percentage of recycled material. All of those
cans and bottles you separate from the rest of the trash can
come back as a new roof – closing the recycling loop!
Installing a metal roof instead of something like asphalt
also means that you’re not buying another petroleum-based
product. And if you’re replacing an existing asphalt roof
with a metal roof by going over it, you’re saving the
environmental impact of dumping more potentially toxic waste
in a landfill. Choosing a metal roof just makes very good
sense for our environment. |
