My steel roof was installed with a radiant heat (infrared) reflective wrap (brand name is Wraptor). We definitely notice the reduced heat load in the house with this combination. Gerard should study this to determine if an Energy Star rating applies.

Subject: Fwd: my roof
Today while working in the yard I realized that my gable fan wasn't running. It was 92 degrees outside and I knew that the attic temperature had to be at least 120 degrees. My attic fan automatically turns on when the temperature reaches 105 so I went into my attic to see what was wrong. I couldn't believe it. The attic was only 94 degrees! Two degrees warmer than outside with a bright sun. I've seen it with my own eyes. The new roof you installed is going to cut my A/C bill way down. Plus we have received several compliments on the appearance of our home. We are so pleased and had to let you know. Thanks a lot.

In the summer when I only had one side of the garage roof finished; Gerard on one side with only tar paper on the other. I went in the attic with a digital laser thermometer. I pointed it at the finished side (Gerard) the temperature was 90 degrees, the other side (tar paper) was 116 degrees. The Gerard side was 26 degrees cooler. You were absolutely right about how energy efficient my Gerard Stone-Coated Steel roof is. P.S.: The roof looks great.

We have chosen a few words to describe the company that installed the new metal roof on our house: honest, dependable, and refreshingly neat.

The job was completed in the estimated time (with allowances for weather and uncontrolled circumstances). Mr. Anderson accomplished everything that had been voiced and more.

Every day before the team left for the day, they went around the house picking up whatever had been dropped and even ran a magnet to pick up any stray nails.

Hurricane Francis and KBS Stone-Coated Steel Shingles

When I moved to Florida, I had KBS Stone Coated Shingles installed on my home. Then along came Hurricane Francis! A day or so before the impact hit our town of Sebastian, Florida, I spent 2 hours in line at a home center in Vero Beach to buy plywood to cover my windows and doors.
When the storm core hit south of us in Stuart, Florida, we went to ride out the storm with our son. With 105+ mph winds pounding, we spent 4 days before we came back to check on our house.
Our son's house, with standard shingles, lost several shingles on the back side of his house. All the way back to Sebastian, roofs of all kinds were damaged in some way or another.
My wife was almost in tears when we saw the destruction and roof damage up and down our block. We suffered winds of 115 mph! There our house stood - and not a one of your shingles were missing, damaged or bent! Thanks KBS Metal Roofing!

"I am a member and chairman of the trustees at Riedland Baptist Church in Paducah, KY. A few years ago we needed to replace our roof on the sanctuary. Another trustee, Wayne Kirkham, told me that he had talked to KBS Metal Roofing about putting a metal roof on our sanctuary. I was against the idea. I did not want to pay that much more for a metal roof. We decided to have KBS come to our church and talk to us about it. He convinced me that this might be a good ideal so we did it -- still against my better judgment. I watched the roof being installed and I was beginning to be impressed."
"In May, 2003, we were in the church about noon on Sunday. I heard a loud noise on the roof. I didn't know what it was at first. It was the biggest hailstorm I have ever experienced in my lifetime. It was reported to be 1 1/2" hail. Most of the cars that were in the parking lot, including mine, were damaged. We had the insurance company come and check our metal roof and they reported no damage. This letter of recommendation is written to recognize the fine job that Mike Bubalo and the workers of North West Builders did on removing my old roof, and then installing a new metal roof, soffit, and facia on my home.
For nineteen years I have lived in a home that is hidden in a dense oak forest. There is a lot of dampness and heavy buildup of leaves, twigs, debris and moss. My neighbors have installed new top-of-the-line asphalt fiberglass roofs only to have them cup or leak in under a decade. Since my home has more trees and a lower pitch than my neighbors I felt I needed something far better than a fiberglass roof in order to avoid the cost and hassle of regular re-roofing. I had searched through technical articles and Internet information on 18 manufacturers of metal roofing. I decided that the Canyon Shake style metal roof manufactured by Gerard was the best suited for my roof because it offered a 50-year warranty and kept the rustic look of my former cedar shake roof while giving me a non-skid surface to blow leaves from. My home was built in 1969.
The Gerard website led me to the distributor KBS Metal Roofing who introduced me to Mike at North West Builders. Mike, in turn, directed me to look at a home in a nearby subdivision where I looked at an excellent roof that he had installed a couple of years prior, and I talked with the homeowner who had very good things to say about their roof, and their experience with Mike. I also viewed a job site he was working on in Valparaiso.
Since there are so few installers of metal roofing, and I didn't personally know of anyone with a metal roof, I had my reservations inasmuch as a lot depends on the quality of workmanship in the installation. I was also concerned since metal costs a lot of money. Therefore a lot of trust would need to rest on the integrity of the company. I did a background check on North West, and found that there were no complaints with the Better Business Bureau, and that Mike was bonded. I signed the contract, paid the deposit and got the building permit for a new roof.
Mike is a man of few words but much action. He earned my trust. He went to his work while patiently and neatly crafting metal pieces to securely encase the entire upper portion of my home in a roof that I feel confident will last for decades. He was always careful to clean up construction debris every night, and to insure there was never any risk of rain coming into my home. He never whined about money, and always showed respect for me, my wife, my children, and my neighbors. This is completely different than the roofing crews we have all seen slap up a roof in a couple of days.
Although Mike never asked me to write this letter, I am so pleased with him that I would like to give you my full recommendation!
